Soliloquy: Timeless Language in the Present Tense
In partnership with producer/provocateur Michael Hebb and director Wier Harman, Town Hall and City Arts offer Soliloquy, a 75-minute presentation of great texts delivered by notable local public figures, most of whom you wouldn't necessarily think of as "performers." Director/speaker pairings in this diverse evening include Oscar nominee Gus Van Sant and Seattle filmmaker Karl Krogstad, Tony-nominated choreographer Donald Byrd and PNB artistic director Peter Boal, Police Story director Robinson Devor and local music icon DJ Riz Rollins, and On the Boards artistic director Lane Czaplinski and award-winning author Lesley Hazleton; Seattle Rep artistic director Jerry Manning and tech entrepreneur David Quinn; local restaurateur Rahwah Habte; filmmaker and culture critic Charles Mudede; State Representative Reuven Carlyle; former Empty Space Theatre Artistic Director Allison Narver, and YouthCare student Alyssa Bramlett. The texts themselves careen from William S. Burroughs to Brian Wilson to Shakespeare, Raymond Carver to Barbara Jordan to Courtney Love. Additionally, Seattle composer and cellist Paul Rucker will compose new work for cello and voice based upon a variety of the soliloquies.
