The Position
WANTED: Six finalists for The Position – must be willing to relinquish clothing and identity, be recorded around the clock, and engage in dangerous psychological games … (survival not guaranteed)
LOS ANGELES, CA – September 9, 2010 – LA/SF-based production company PianoFight is proud to present the full-length dramatic play, The Position, a LA-premiere written by the most produced Bay Area playwright of the current Bay Area season, William Bivins.
A fast paced, post apocalyptic, darkly comic thriller, The Position is the story of a shining opportunity and what people will do to get it, in a world ravaged by 80% unemployment and mass social chaos. The Position represents security and fulfillment. The Concern has selected six finalists from more than half-a-million job applicants, flown them to a remote compound, and provided them with every luxury and diversion—including golf, paragliding and skeet shooting. When they arrive, the six candidates are stripped of their clothing and identities, informed that the laws of The Nation have been suspended and that they will be recorded around the clock while they compete for the one job that they believe can give them hope in a hopeless world.
You can fill out an application for The Position at www.applyfortheposition.com to receive a discount code for $5 off tickets and a chance at winning free tickets to the show.
Featuring Sofie Calderon, George Gallagher, Jeremy Mascia, Mark Motyl, Ann Nguyen and Akemi Okamura as the six finalists, The Position cast is rounded out by Liz Osborn and Eric Delgado as employees of The Concern who administer the application process. PianoFight Producing Company Members Jeremy Mascia and Nina Harada produce.
The world premiere of The Position in January brought rave reviews from SF critics. The SF Bay Guardian described it as "Inspired, rebellious love-making with our doom clouded moment…this is a great ride", the SF Chronicle said it had "Quirky suspense and provocative humor" and the SF Weekly called it "Gripping…utterly engaging." William Bivins is a 2009 Bay Area Critics Circle Award Winner for his original biblical comedy, "Pulp Scripture".
June Carryl returns to PianoFight after being on the directing team of ShortLived 3.0, PianoFight's 3-month long playwright competition.
