KPCC Play Reading Series - FABRIC
In partnership with KPCC, Company of Angels (L.A.'s oldest non-profit professional theatre company) presents a staged reading of Fabric by Los Angeles playwright, Henry Ong. Fabric, reviewed by the L.A. Times as "hard hitting…moving and always compelling", is the only known stage dramatization of the events that led up to the landmark El Monte Slavery case. In a pre-dawn raid on August 2, 1995, state and federal officials discovered seventy-two Thai nationals being held against their will in an apartment building ringed with barbed wire and spiked fences. News of the enslavement of the Thai workers in El Monte, CA made national and international headlines.
The reading is directed by Henry Ong and features Jennifer Chang, Jully Lee, Dian Kobayashi, Julia Cho, Joyce F. Liu, Tom Beyer, Darrell Kunitomi, Pat Cochran, Eddie Mui and West Liang. With sound design by Dennis Yen.
