Local singers/musicians/songwriters, Laura Berman and Craig Benelli of 4 Stories High, will be doing a benefit concert for the Havurah on Thursday, October 21 at 7:30 PM. Rabbi David Zaslow says, "Laura and Craig are an extraordinary musical team. The music they write, the lyrics they compose, and the performances they give are a seamless whole. They call themselves 4 Stories High, but I'd rate them at least 100 stories high!"
Benelli and Berman have lived in Ashland for two years - both transplants from New York City. By 2004, both Laura Berman and Craig Benelli had achieved a certain amount of success individually. Berman was a NY Singer/Songwriter who received critical acclaim for her debut CD Love Will, including an honorable mention in the 2003 John Lennon Songwriting Contest. She also performed as a backup vocalist with Grammy Award winning performer, Enya, on the David Letterman Show. Benelli was a guitar player in NY who had recorded with numerous singer/songwriters and performed with the National Touring Company for the Broadway Musical, Rent.
The duo merged their unique talents in 2004 and emerged as a powerful team. Ayala Zonnenschein, Havurah Program Director, says "Craig and Laura's original songs will crack open your hearts as you resonate with the passion, pain, joy and hope of our common human experience." When this duo was commissioned in 2004 by Center for Spiritual Living in Morristown, NJ to write songs for their special programs, it began a musical partnership and a collection of spiritual songs that would affect the hearts and minds of thousands nationwide. That partnership became 4 Stories High and those songs became their first CD, Detour.
Since the release of their CD, the two have toured extensively opening for top-selling authors like Marianne Williamson and Neale Donald Walsch and performing at numerous Spiritual Centers across the country including The Agape International Spiritual Center in Culver City, CA.
Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 door, $8 students and free for children under 12, and are available at the Music Coop, 181"A" St. Ashland, as well as online at www.brownpapertickets.com.
