8:00PM WE DON'T CARE ABOUT MUSIC ANYWAY - California Premiere*
Radical turntablism, laptop music innovation, and classical instrument
hijacking, Tokyo's avant-garde music scene is internationally known
for its boldness. A medley of music and noise, sound and image, reality and representation, this documentary offers a kaleidoscopic view of Tokyo and us to some of its most innovative musicians.
9:30PM ROCKSTEADY: ROOTS OF REGGAE - California premiere*
Before there was Bob Marley, there was Rocksteady. The successor of
Ska, Rocksteady arose at a time when young people from the Jamaican
countryside were flooding into the urban ghettos of Kingston. Although rocksteady was a short-lived phase of Jamaican popular music, it was hugely influential on reggae, dub and dancehall.
