Workshop for Fiddlers
Irish and Scottish fiddle music is all about making people want to dance. We'll begin with a brief overview of the history of Irish and Scottish music and what makes it sound different from other styles. Then, while in the process of teaching a couple of traditional tunes, we'll look at how to practice efficiently, arrange material for performances, and how to incorporate bowing and rhythmic patterns that give a tune a good, danceable drive. I'll teach the class primarily by ear, but sheet music of tunes and bowing styles will be given out for home study. Basic ability on a stringed instrument is recommended. We will encourage a fun, supportive learning environment in which no-one will be singled out. Audio recorders welcome.
