The Ring Cycle: Part 1+2
The Bushwick Starr and award winning collaborative theatre ensemble, Performance Lab 115, team up to present The Ring Cycle: Part 1+2. In this provocative adaptation of Wagner's iconic Ring Cycle, the company re-situates the mythic opera in the familiar world of 1980's Americana. Part 1 re-casts Wagner's Norse gods as professional wrestlers pumped up on rock & roll and steroids on a mission for power and glory. Part 2 takes a turn into down and out 1980s America: those for whom trickle-down economics meant economic drought. By re-contextualizing Wagner's themes of pride and power in the materialistic landscape of 1980's America, PL115 sheds new light on Wagner's epic tale and the lessons it holds for our own tumultuous time.
The Ring Cycle: Part 1+2 is directed by Dave Dalton (H.M.S. Pinafore, Drama Desk Nominee for Outstanding Revival of a Musical), and includes performances by Jeff Clarke (Mourn the Living Hector), Marty Keiser (Caucasian Chalk Circle), Rebecca Lingafelter (The Verge, Rocky Philly), Sara Buffamanti (Artifacts of Consequence), and Rachel Jablin (Caucasian Chalk Circle). Designers include PL115's resident sound designer and NY Innovative Theatre Awards Nominee Mark Valadez.
