DIG IN! BREAK GROUND & BREAK BREAD
BREAK GROUND & BREAK BREAD
Come Break ground on local projects to help create a world where
food is good for you, good for the grower, and good for the planet.
And then break bread to celebrate!
Who: Everyday people who are creating a world where everyone can eat food that is good for them, good for the people who grow it, and good for the planet. The goal is for 10, 000 people nationwide to participate in this day of action. Slow Food USA's 225 volunteer-led chapters are already spearheading over 150 events nationwide. We are aiming for 50 volunteers to come out to the farm—children welcome!
What: In Northern NJ we will break ground together at The Community Supported Garden at Genesis Farm. The projects will intimately connect you to where local food comes from.
Possible activities include crop mob—where volunteers swarm a farm and accomplish a task that normally takes several days, like harvesting sweet potatoes. Gleaning—going through harvested fields for crops left behind to be donated to a local food bank or shelter. Deer fencing—helping the farm put up fencing to save the veggies from rambunctious deer. Shell dry beans. Popping garlic. Etc.
