OPENING REMARKS:

Paulette Senior, CEO, YWCA Canada
Paulette is the CEO of YWCA Canada, the oldest and largest multi-service women's organization in the country. She took up her duties in January of 2006 and is recognized as one of the most respected and vocal women leaders in the country. She has captured significant attention as a leader and advocate for women and girls  resolute to build a safe and just society where women and girls are equal and free from violence, poverty, homelessness; equipped with critical supports to be leaders in their lives and communities.

PANEL MODERATOR:

Nneka Elliott, Reporter/Anchor, CP24
Nneka Elliott is one of Canada's most versatile broadcasters. Before she was 30, Nneka had already held such roles at Newstalk 1010, The Weather Network, CTV News Toronto/Canada AM, and most notably Reporter/Anchor at CP24 news. It's hard to find a big news story in the last 10 years that Nneka did not cover. Co-workers and viewers alike say Nneka has a natural ability to engage audiences and effortlessly transition from hard stories like Nelson Mandela's death to making the stars laugh on the red carpet at TIFF. As co-host of CP24 Breakfast Weekend, Nneka shows off her sense of humour, wit and her girl next door charm. Elliott has also acted as host of the station's longest running talk show Auto Shop, remote host for CTV's Santa Claus Parade and was remote host for CP24's Caribana Coverage since 2008. In 2011 Nneka parlayed her passion for the industry and her desire to help young people into The Media Huddle; a media networking and mentorship company.  Nneka recently concluded her tenure as a Ryerson University alumni board member. She was featured on the city of Toronto's Black History Month poster in 2010 and was named one of Ryerson University's Top 30 alumni under 30 in 2009.

PANELIST BIOS:

Sasha Lindsay
Sasha refused to be labelled another unsuccessful young mother. A talented dancer, Sasha had been cast in many music videos but also worked full-time in the legal field to support her young daughter. Then she lost her job. Three months into her employment search, Sasha decided to create her dream job, instead of looking for it. Come hear how Sasha turned her side hustle into a successful start-up, her advice for new entrepreneurs and how she broke down barriers to her success.

Michelle Engson
Michelle decided to transform her body, her health and her life  by changing what she eats. She was overweight, consistently sick, feeling tired and unhealthy. As a nurse, Michelle took great care of others, but she needed to take better care of herself. So, she started with a whole new approach to food. Michelle lost 30 pounds in three months. Now she's studying nutritional therapy so she can help others. Come hear about how Michelle started  and stuck to  her new healthy lifestyle, and how she plans to turn her passion into a pay cheque.

Michelle Lochan
Michelle's story starts in peril, but ends with triumph. Yes, she's a domestic abuse survivor and a divorced mother raising 5 children. But there's much more to know about her. As the owner of MarketStart, Michelle has helped over 200 small businesses and non-profits with business plans, marketing, operations and project management. She promotes financial literacy, business ownership and self-sufficiency  especially to women who aspire to be entrepreneurs. Michelle was named Global First Place Overall Winner of the Hot Mommas Project 2013 Case Study Competition and the 2012 Microskills Entrepreneur of the Year. Come hear more about how Michelle started her business, and how she can help yours.

Karen Jewels
Karen Jewels has a lot to say about making music that matters, and living off her passion. She's a singer/songwriter whose memorable sound can be described as inspirational urban soul. She is also the founder/CEO of Upright Music Republic, an independent record label that represents artists who strive to uplift, inspire and positively impact the community. Karen has performed on stage or has opened for artists from Kardinal Offishall to Champion to Grammy Award winner, Tye Tribbett. She has also performed performed in musicals like Disney's The Lion King and The Ultimate Sacrifice. Karen just completed a live recording of her second full length CD, element 79, as a follow-up to The Victor Project. A mother of two young men, Karen's singles include 'Sons', a powerful message in a post-Ferguson world. Come hear Karen's testimony about staying true to herself, while trying to make it as an artist  and an entrepreneur.
