Storytelling For Everyone: 3-Hour Class in Personal Narrative
STORYTELLING FOR EVERYONE
This 3-hour class is a fun, engaging introduction to the basics of personal storytelling and an opportunity to begin developing at least one story for performance.
In a safe, encouraging environment, participants will be exposed to some tools, tricks, and tips of the professional storyteller via open discussion, paired telling, and dynamic exercises.
This session is open to all experience levels, and everyone from the complete beginner to the seasoned storyteller will benefit from this work-on-your-feet approach to discovering and developing your own unique voice.
There is no need to have ideas for stories you'd like to tell in class, as we will be generating material, but you are welcome to if you'd like.
(This class usually costs 2-3 times as much in Chicago, but is being offered at a special rate in conjunction with Backyard Story Night. Hope to see you there!)
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR Scott Whitehair is a storyteller, teacher, and producer who has performed and taught internationally. He is the host and producer of This Much Is True, one of Chicago's longest running personal storytelling series, and creator of Story Lab Chicago, which has featured 300+ new and first time performers since 2011. Scott has told stories anywhere somebody will listen, including The Moth, Steppenwolf, Second City, IO Chicago, The Green Mill, NPR, Risk! Podcast, Write Club, and NYC's Webster Hall, to name just a few. Scott is a two-time MothSLAM Chicago winner, runner-Up at The 2012 Windy City Story Slam All-City Championships, and has participated in The Printer's Row Lit Festival, Fillet of Solo Festival, Rhino Fest, Chicago Improv Festival, and The Association of Writers & Writing Programs Conference. His class has been selling out monthly for the last three years, and he has trained non-profits and corporations all over Chicago. Scott recently was appointed to the Board of Directors for the National Storytelling Network, and was the featured instructor at Hong Kong Story Worthy Week 2014, which was headlined by David Sedaris. When he is not telling or listening to stories, Scott enjoys riding his bike, grilling out, and sitting in saunas.
