Esmaeil Mihandoust will be our guest in Berkeley on Saturday, February 21st, to screen two short films, "Layover Las Vegas" (2014) and "The Reward" (1996), and to talk about his new book, "Roo-dar-roo ba Asghar Farhadi." "Layover Las Vegas" is in English and "The Reward" has English subtitles. Mr. Mihandoust's talk will be in Farsi. Translation available. Presented by Baran Cultural Group, sponsored by Diaspora Arts Connection. Tickets: $10 advance, $20 door.
Director's Biography:
Mr. Mehmandoust was born 1955 in Khoi, Iran; he graduated from the Tehran Commerce University (1977) and from the Experimental Film Foundation (1991). He has directed several short films [Me, Rear Window and Hitch; Phobia, 13th Hour], and many TV series for Iranian television [The Adventures of House Number 13, The Moon and the Fire, The Old House, The Neighborhood Attorney, Intimate Enemies, Yek Tir Do Neshan] before directing his first feature film: A Very Close Encounter [IFF 2010]. Mr. Mehmandoust has taught film at Tehran, Yazd, and Isfahan's universities. His articles on cinema and his film reviews have been published in various Iranian film publications. He has also written two books titled: New World New Cinema, and Truin Documentary. His latest book is on Asghar Farhadi, the Oscar winning director of A Separation.
