Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead
The action of Tom Stoppard's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead takes place in the wings of Shakespeare's Hamlet. Or Shakespeare's Hamlet takes place in the wings of Stoppard's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead. This play follows the misadventures of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, the absurdist anti-heroes caught in a conspiracy of theatre. Summoned by the King to "glean what afflicts" Prince Hamlet, the two protagonists stumble through endless confusions of self and purpose. Like the great duos of comedy, from Laurel and Hardy to Waiting for Godot's Vladimir and Estragon, the two fools grapple to understand the events that surround them, finding themselves caught in a web of words, performance, and existential meaning.
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead is the first production of Theatre UNO's Fall 2010 Season, and is a co-production with Theatre 13 Productions. Theatre 13's recent New Orleans productions include The 39 Steps, David Mamet's November, and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern will be directed by Theatre 13 co-founder and UNO Alumni, Gary Rucker.
Performances will take place in the Robert E. Nims Theatre in the UNO Performing Arts Center, and will run September 9th – 11th, and September 16th – 18th at 7:30 pm, and will close on Sunday, September 19th with a 2:30 pm curtain.

Hoover (Claudius), James Vitale (Horatio), Jared Gore (Gertrude), Michael Aaron Santos (Hamlet), Eric Long (Ophelia), Daniel Schubert-Skelly (Poisoner King), Michael Krikorian (Polonius), and Robert Facio (Fortinbras).
