Up-Rooted Youth Poetry Slam & Showcase
In partnership with KPCC, The Project presents Up-Rooted Youth Poetry Slam & Showcase on Friday, September 17, 2010. The evening will begin with an open poetry slam comprised of eight young poets competing for a $100 prize donated by Nappy Nation. Each poet will have the opportunity to present one poem that best represents their cultural background. A special guest panel of judges will score each participant to determine who will take home the title of the 2010 Up-Rooted Grand Slam Champion.
Following the poetry slam, the showcase will feature award-winning original poetry performed by the two time regional champions Inland Empire Youth Team. The evening will conclude with a Q&A and audience dialogue aimed at discussing the values of constructive self expression as a way to bridge the gap between educator, parent, and community while shaping the new poetic voices of tomorrow.
