Ember Swift
One of the most innovative, inspiring and cutting edge artists to play the "Caffè Lena stage, Canadian musician and activist Ember Swift has embarked on a new chapter in her life. Now dividing her "home time" between Toronto and Beijing, she's been hiding out and writing songs near Chao Yang Park for the past two and a half years. She took the time to learn Chinese, immerse in the culture (which included falling in love and getting married to a local Beijing musician), and develop a new body of work that reflects her new cultural surroundings (LENTIC, released 2009).
Her new trio includes fellow Beijing residents Zac Courtney of Australia on the drums and Burundi's Paplus Ntahombaye on the bass. This performance will combine Ember's new Lentic material alongside old favorites. Styles include her signature mix of jazz, swing, R&B, funk, pop, folk-rock, blues, and French cabaret. Ember sings in English, French, and Mandarin.
