Following its wildly successful, turnaway crowd inaugural season of the classic Nutcracker ballet (December 2009), Mark Foehringer Dance Project | SF presents its second annual holiday production of Nutcracker at Zeum, a unique version of the classic ballet Nutcracker with a contemporary twist.
Featuring the return of former ODC dancer Brian Fisher as Drosselmeyer; music direction my Michael Morgan; set design by Peter Crompton; costume design by Richard Battle; and members from Magik*Magik Orchestra infused into the dance scenes, Nutcracker at Zeum is an affordable, 50-minute, fun and zany rendition of this popular holiday tradition.
Specifically designed for young families and children, this unique production features dances from MFDP|SF in addition to dancers from Mark Foehringer's youth company. The Magik*Magik Orchestra performs Morgan's re-orchestration of the original Tchaikovsky score-but unlike most performances, these musicians won't be sitting in an orchestra pit, but infused into the dance scenes. Peter Crompton's whimsical and artful scenic design conjures up a fantastical, dreamlike world to set the stage.
The 4 pm performance on November 27 will be followed by a reception with the artists.
