Directed by Adi Adwan Israel, 2013, 84 min Hebrew, Arabic with English subtitles Houston Premiere Drama
Yusuf, an Israeli Druze, left his village as a young man, married an Israeli-Jewish woman, and fathered two children, now teenagers. Their parents have recently divorced, and Yusuf, who hasn't been back to his village in many years, decides to return with his Jewish children.
The children are bewildered by the traditions of village life. Grandma isn't delighted by her son's return, having done the Druze equivalent of sitting shiva for him, and she is far from welcoming to her grandchildren.
Arabani examines the social, religious, and cultural divides separating the two cultures and offers us a glimpse into Druze life.
