SWEENEY TODD
SWEENEY TODD: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
music & lyrics by Stephen Sondheim
book by Hugh Wheeler
directed by Peter Reynolds
"Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street", with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and a book by Hugh Wheeler, is a comic, sinister, and deeply profound meditation on revenge, love, and the lengths to which we go in order to survive—-morally, economically, spiritually. In it, a barber out for revenge makes a devilish pact with a giddy, gruesome pie shop owner, Mrs. Lovett. As the song goes: "What happens then--well, that's the play. And he wouldn't want us to give it away..." Directed by Peter Reynolds, the Artistic Director of Philly's very popular Mauckingbird Theatre Company.
Presented in cooperation with MTI (Music Theatre International).
