MUSIC+DANCE:LA 2 - The Seasons
LIVE MUSIC AND ORIGINAL BALLETS, UP CLOSE.
Last year, the Los Angeles Times said of ACB's first program-length ballet, Tchaikovsky Piano Trio, "it soars." August's MUSIC+DANCE:LA II brings the premiere of ACB's second program-length work: The Seasons, with music by Alexander Glazunov, is a masterful, relatively unknown score from the era of Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty and The Nutcracker. Originally choreographed by Marius Petipa, whose staging has been lost, The Seasons will feature new choreography by Lincoln Jones, and will be performed with a new musical arrangement by Peter Myers and Jim McMillen.
MUSIC+DANCE:LA features live performances of dance and music in dynamic, contemporary settings with all seating at stage level. Original programs feature American Contemporary Ballet in new works and masterpieces of 20th century dance, accompanied by some of Los Angeles' finest musicians. Each one-hour performance is followed by a reception with the artists, drinks, and live jazz. The Los Angeles Times called MUSIC+DANCE:LA "a welcome new series" and Los Angeles Magazine called it "a seductive and engaging synthesis of dance and music."
This season, MUSIC+DANCE:LA takes place at the Farmers and Merchants Bank building in downtown LA. This landmark, Classical Revival structure encloses a single, 5000 square foot space with a ceiling 40 feet above.
