The Battle for Mobile Bay--Phantasy of the Arts
On October 9, 2010, Space 301 (http://www.space301.com/) art gallery in Mobile will be the venue for a regional gala called Phantasy of the Arts. Since its inception in 2004, Phantasy of the Arts has highlighted the performing, musical and visual arts, showcasing the region's myriad talent at its annual signature event to raise funds for public education. This year's theme "The Battle for Mobile Bay" will feature the culinary and fashion arts for the first time ever. Anticipating record attendance, this year's event will be held among three levels at Space 301 art gallery.
In order to showcase the culinary arts, we are creating a Bobby Flay-style Chef Throwdown featuring Mobile and Baldwin Counties' best chefs (from Baldwin County we have Ryan Glass from Camellia Cafe, Tyler Kean from The Fairhope Inn, Chris Rainocek from The Wash House, Michael Wallace from the Grand Hotel and Ben Hargett from Cobalt in Orange Beach. From Mobile we have Wes True of TRUE, Marc Walden from Little House Bistro, Cortlandt Inge from Cortlandt's and Marty Pollock from The Battle House) competing in teams to create the best recipes from the same given set of core ingredients. We will include a meat, a seafood item, a starch and a green and will ask the teams to work their magic! The teams will create the menu and serve the crowd (approximately 500), while vying for best team honors. Each chef will also bring a signature heavy hors d'oeuvres from his restaurant as a pass-around at the beginning of the event. We are excited by not only the quality of our competing chefs, but also for the opportunity to expose the culinary arts profession to our students, educators and parents in our public school system. We will also spotlight the fashion arts (featuring designers from both sides of the Bay) and will enjoy a 'Battle of the Bands' between two of Baldwin and Mobile counties' favorite musical groups; Grayson Capps & The Stumpknockers vs The Modern Eldorados.
