THIS AIN'T NO MOUSE MUSIC, co-presented by The Berkeley FILM Foundation and features a pre-film concert and a post-film Q&A (Doc Night)
THIS AIN'T NO MOUSE MUSIC! chronicles the fifty-year quest for the musical soul of America by Bay Area roots music icon Chris Strachwitz, founder of indie-label, Arhoolie Records. The feature doc, which had its World Premiere at South by Southwest (2013), takes us on a hip-shaking stomp from New Orleans to Texas, Cajun country to Appalachia, to celebrate Strachwitz' vision of American music music that's the antithesis of the corporate "mouse music" Strachwitz deplores. The film has wowed audiences from Brooklyn to Melbourne. Says Radio One, New Zealand, this film is "Smokin' hot!!"

Featuring Mance Lipscomb, the Treme Brass Band, Lightnin' Hopkins, Richard Thompson, Ry Cooder, Flaco Jiménez, Clifton Chenier, Taj Mahal, Michael Doucet, the Savoy Family, Bonnie Raitt, the Pine Leaf Boys, No Speed Limit and more.

Veteran filmmakers Chris Simon and Maureen Gosling have been friends and colleagues of Strachwitz' for over thirty years. They met while working with documentary filmmaker Les Blank, and collaborated with him on classic films such as Gap-Toothed Women and Burden of Dreams. Since the late '90s they each have been making their own documentaries. THIS AIN'T NO MOUSE MUSIC! is their first film together.
