ABOUT: The WI premiere: A one-woman show adapted by Joe Stollenwerk from Margaret Atwood's highly acclaimed modern classic dystopian novel. Set in the near future, the remnants of the United States has been overthrown by a theocracy known as the Republic of Gilead. The story shares the journey of one woman: Offred, who under this religious totalitarian society has been stripped of her name and family, and forced to become a Handmaid. In this new society, women have been thrown into a class system. As a Handmaid, she is only valued for he use to reproduce for purposes of population growth. This captivating tale follows Offred's struggles under this frightening new regime, while clinging to her memories of the time before the revolution - in hopes of a better future. The Handmaid's Tale forces us to confront what freedom and values really mean.
