SONGS FROM THE OLD PARISH
Written and Directed by Greg Drozdek/ Cello: Jeremy Lamb 'Twelve stories, with music, about growing up and living in New York City... 'I have lived and worked here all my life. My father was a refugee from Yugoslavia who met my mother after she left the convent. New York raised me. The people, the streets, my priest and the nuns, the neighbors, they all helped me survive. The bar, the characters and crooks at the bar where my father drank, they helped raise me too. They taught me to love the music of the city, the music I have built my life around here, as a teacher and a writer, the songs that are New York, the songs from the old parish. ' Native son Greg Drozdek founded and ran The Stanton Street Settlement, a free after-school program for immigrant children from 1998 - 2008. Greg has also worked as an English Teacher and Assistant Principal at La Salle Academy. His short film PAYDAY (with Theodore Bikel and Jimmy Breslin) won Best Director and Best Cinematography at The New York Film and Video Festival in 2001. A full-length biographical documentary FINDING HOME premiered at The Lake Forrest Film Festival in 2007, and was shown at The Accolade Film Festival in 2008. His stage plays include: THE TENDER, THE HERE AND NOW (Kraine,) and CATHERINE SLIP (Red Room). He is currently running laptoplibrary.org, a small free ESL program in Chinatown. Since graduating from the Peabody Institute, Jeremy Lamb has been an active chamber and orchestral musician, performing in Baltimore, Cleveland and New York. Mr. Lamb performs regularly with the Ambience String Quartet and has performed with numerous ensembles at venues such as the Clark Studio Theater at Lincoln Center, St. Patrick's Cathedral, The Roulette, The Yong Siew Toh Conservatory and Aspen Music Festival's Harris Hall. As an orchestral cellist, Mr. Lamb has performed with the New World Symphony, the Juennesses World Orchestra and the Oaxaca Symphony Orchestra as well as the Columbus, Akron, Youngstown and Mansfield Symphony Orchestras. In 2003, he was the winner of the Baltimore Music Club Competition and a recipient of the Peabody Career Grant. He has performed in masterclasses with Lynn Harrell, David Finckel & Wu Han, Hans Jensen, Matt Haimovitz, and Amidt Peled. Door proceeds to benefit The Actors Fund for HOWL! HELP.
