David Caudle's THE SUNKEN LIVING ROOM
Directed by Enrico LaManna... A member of the Dorothy Strelsin New American Writers Group, award-winning playwright David Caudle, is a Miami native who often sets his plays in his hometown. THE SUNKEN LIVING ROOM (Gold Medal Finalist for the Pinter Review Prize for Drama, winner of the Southern New Plays Festival and most recently the Samuel French Award) takes place in a Miami suburb. Here, in the sunniest of cities,THE SUNKEN LIVING ROOM grapples with Caudle's skew on the modern family: Wade just wants to finish his homework and keep his family together, as the world around him changes and his mother plays bridge. His airline pilot father is off playing around and his brother is on a drug binge with a girlfriend. Slated for an Italian opening next season with famed award-winning director Enrico LaManna, The Sunken Living Room is being developed here in limited runs and at festivals and is currently being translated into Italian for its European debut. Mr. Caudle's work has been described as: '...at times twisted and often unexpected.' (Backstage); '...surprises with... mystifying aura, dramatic punch' (Village Voice); 'funny, touching and disturbing' (Times-Picayune); 'unsettling, funny, poignant.' (Miami Herald).
