Donate to Hyde Park School of Dance
Hyde Park School of Dance provides opportunities for students of all ages to study, perform, and create classical and contemporary dance at the highest levels of discipline and artistry. Our goal is to cultivate a love of dance and strength of body, mind and character that will benefit our students throughout their lives.
Founded in 1993 as the Hyde Park School of Ballet, Hyde Park School of Dance (HPSD) began with one teacher and 30 young students in a single studio. The non-profit School now operates three studios and enrolls over 400 students of all ages. Led by Founder and Artistic Director August Tye, HPSD is a key part of the growing and vibrant South Side arts community.
Hyde Park School of Dance proudly celebrated 20 years of dance in the Hyde Park and south shore communities in 2013.
HPSD has come a long way in two decades. From a single studio and handful of students in 1993, we have grown into one of Chicago's most respected dance schools, recognized for the integrity of our programs and our healthy approach to training young dancers. We take pride in the School's progressive curriculum, which fosters a love of dance as well as strength of body, mind, and character.
But tuition alone does not cover the real cost of instruction at HPSD. We meet that cost and maintain our scholarship and outreach programs through individual gifts and grants. Make a financial contribution to our program, or contact Terra Schultz, Executive Director, at terra@hydeparkdance.org, to learn about season sponsorship and other support opportunities.
What exactly will you be supporting?
HPSD currently enrolls more than 450 students from 43 Chicago and northwest Indiana zip codes. Eleven-percent of our students are on needs-based scholarships. Your donation helps keep all our dancers dancing, while ensuring that our outstanding faculty, staff, and accompanists are fairly compensated. Individual gifts also support our S.T.E.P.S. outreach program, which serves thousands of south side children and adults who would otherwise not be exposed to dance, through after-school instructional partnerships, workshops, and free or low-cost performances at the Children's Book Fair, Blackstone Library, and Mandel Hall, as well as local nursing homes and retirement centers.
