ALICE DOESN"T LIVE HERE ANYMORE
Directed by Martin Scorsese
With Ellen Burstyn, Kris Kristofferson, Diane Ladd, Jodi Foster, Harvey Keitel
USA (1974) 112 minutes
Films like The Last Picture Show and The Exorcist made Ellen Burstyn one of the hottest names in Hollywood and gave her the opportunity to make a film of her choosing. So she sought out a story about real lives, and a director from the New Hollywood. The result was "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore," a portrait of life as a woman in America that was much different from the America of Hollywood's dream factory. The film earned her an Academy Award for Best Actress.
Join us for a screening of this groundbreaking film, followed by a discussion with Ellen Burstyn and Kristi Zea (two-time Oscar nominee--as Producer for "As Good As It Gets" and as Production Designer for "Revolutionary Road"), who will add insight into the cultural climate "Alice" was made in, and discuss why it has been a source of inspiration for the film she is preparing to direct this spring.
