the Rainbow Thief
The Rainbow Thief, Jodorowsky's last completed film, begins at a dinner party hosted by millionaire Rudolf Von Tannen. In attendance are relatives who hope to be the beneficiaries of his fortune after his death. Things take a turn when, following a performance by The Rainbow Girls, Von Tannen suffers a heart attack and falls into a coma. The film picks up later with his nephew Meleagre (played by Peter O'Toole), who lives with the Dima (Omar Sharif) in the sewerline in anticipation of the coming wealth, which inevitably never arrives. A stellar cast (Peter O'Toole and Omar Sharif reunited here for the first time since Lawrence of Arabia) in an enthusiastically received film, this is the lost gem of Jodorowsky's cinematic works.
