UC Alumni Chorus and Smuin Ballet present CARMINA BURANA
The most often programmed choral piece of our time is Carl Orff's Carmina Burana. To create a truly unforgettable performance of this popular work, the UC Alumni Chorus is collaborating with Smuin Ballet, hot on the heels of their sold-out Carmina Burana performances in San Francisco, and three of the finest Bay Area soloists: Shawnette Sulker, soprano; Brian Staufenbiel, tenor; and Tony Award-winning baritone, Eugene Brancoveanu. Under the direction of Dr. Mark Sumner, over 200 choristers will raise their voices on the massive Berkeley Community Theater stage. The program will begin with choruses from Orff's Catulli Carmina and the powerful "Dark Night of the Soul" by Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo. The latter will be conducted by Jo Anne Wasserman, director of the Santa Barbara Choral Society, members of which will be joining the UC Men's and Women's Chorales and UC Alumni Choral forces. With choreography by founder Michael Smuin, the evening promises to provide phenomenal sights and sounds from start to finish.
