The Alien Comic, David Cale, Salley May & Glenn Marla
The Alien Comic AKA Tom Murrin has had a career in performance that has spanned four decades. Besides curating and performing the legendary Full Moon Shows, and "The Talking Show: "The Magical Ridiculous Journey of Alien Comic", Murrin has appeared alongside such luminaries as Johanna Went, and the late Ethyl Eichelberger, In 2008, P.S. 122 honored him at their annual Spring Gala. David Cale The multi-talented Cale is best known for his solo works "Somebody Else's House", "Deep in a Dream of You", "Smooch Music", "The Redthroats?, and the Obie Award-winning "Lillian", which have been performed in New York and Chicago. As an actor, his credits include Broadway's "Present Laughter" (1996) and "The Threepenny Opera " (2006). His monologues have been featured on NPR's "This American Life" and "The Next Big Thing" and on BBC Radio 4's "Afternoon Play." As a lyricist, his words have been performed by Elvis Costello, Deborah Harry, and the Jazz Passengers. Salley May is the co-founder of PS 122's longest-running series, "Avant-Garde-Arama", and most recently appeared in Jennifer Miller's "Cracked Ice". Glenn Marla is a Brooklyn-based performance artist, tranny superstar and beauty pageant queen (Miss LES 2006 and Mr. Coney Island). The Portland Phoenix calls his work, "performance art that pushes the envelope without pushing the audience away," Time Out New York Calls Glenn a "downtown prophet" and The New York Times calls him "an obese transvestite in tights." Glenn has appeared in Taylor Mac's "The Lily's Revenge." He was also featured in Justin Bond's "Lustre: A Mid Winters Trans Fest" at P.S. 122 and Abrons Arts Center. Glenn's 2008 year-long performance project "New York City's Hottest Fat Go-Go Boy" explored fat, gender and sex, as he danced all over the city becoming a fixture in New York City nightlife. Marla was nominated for two 2008 Glammy Awards and a short story of his is featured in Gendered Hearts soon to released by Alyson Press. Door proceeds to benefit The Actors' Fund for HOWL! HELP.
