Double bill - Zweikampf and Musica Pacifica!
Start your Weekend right! At 6 pm, Barefoot Concerts presents Zweikampf, the unique harpsichord duo, in St. Mark's Parish Hall. Right around the corner at Trinity Chapel, at 7.30, the fabulous Musica Pacifica will play their acclaimed "Brandenburgs and More" program with a star studded cast of soloists and equally fabulous ripieno ensemble. With the double bill, you get reserved seating at the Musica Pacifica concert.
Both, yes, BOTH concerts for $35 (general), $30 (Seniors/SFEMS) and $20 (students), you save up to $10 over the cost of attending both separately! Of course, you can just go to one concert, but let's face it, it's Friday Night, and you deserve it all! Huge savings, and all the Baroque music you can possibly want.
Zweikampf is Stephen Gamboa and Faythe Vollrath, and the harpsichord duo will play their legendary program "Sehnsucht: All the Feels of the Late Baroque." This program explores the intense emotions and sensitive spirits of the last great era of decadence before the enlightenment took the fun out of things. Smelling salts will be provided along with the traditional Barefoot snax. From the "Empfindsamer" style of W.F. Bach to the drastic mood changes of Hypochondria, this program explores all aspects of 'true and natural feelings.' Featuring works by Zelenka, Rameau (yes, Rameau for two harpsichords, what more could anyone want), and W.F. Bach.
For the Entree, Musica Pacifica will play "Brandenburgs and More": two of Bach's beloved Brandenburg Concertos--#4 featuring solo violin and 2 recorders; and #5 featuring harpsichord, flute, and violin--as well as Telemann's concerto for flute and recorder, string concertos by Vivaldi and an unusual double concerto for recorder, violin, and strings by Johann Gottlieb Graun.
Concerto soloists are: Musica Pacifica: Judith Linsenberg, recorder; Elizabeth Blumenstock, violin; Charles Sherman, harpsichord; and guest artists Stephen Schultz, flute; Frances Blaker, recorder; Lisa Weiss and Anthony Martin, violins; David Wilson, viola; Gretchen Claassen, 'cello; and Farley Pearce, violone.
All hail, Friday Baroque Night in Berkeley!
