New Day
What does it mean to move on? How do we relate to the ending of a period of our lives or those around us? Exploring these questions to endings and the rituals we associate with them, artist Alex Jovanovich presents the world premiere of his newest performance work, New Day. Staging a wake of his own life in the Serbian Orthodox tradition of his family, Jovanovich invites spectators to commemorate the end of his life as he has known it. With handmade funerary items created by the artist, Jovanovich constructs an ending of his own choosing, and in the process invites us to reflect on our own relationships to the end.
