Esther & Me and A 'Specially Wonderful Affair: 2 films on aging
Comedian and Kung Pao Kosher Comedy producer, Lisa Geduldig, presents the San Francisco premiere of her short documentary, "Esther & Me," a profile of San Francisco Jewish (nursing) Home resident, Esther Weintraub, and the friendship they developed.
Esther was a professional violinist in Canada in her teens, then moved to NY and began a 35-year modeling career, raised a family, did stand up in her 60's, came back onstage at 87 to perform in front of a packed house at The Herbst Theatre (one of her prized standing ovations), was feisty, witty, and politically-minded.
"Esther & Me" screens with "A 'Specially Wonderful Affair," the film that sparked the friendship that sparked "Esther & Me." This is a 2002 documentary about singer/songwriter, Judith-Kate Friedman, and the Jewish Home San Francisco's resident singers and songwriters and their making of the CD "Island on a Hill."
The films (each 30 minutes) are followed by a Q&A with filmmaker, Lisa Geduldig, and her 18 year old whiz kid editor, Adam Kennedy. A 'Specially Wonderful Affair's director may also be in attendance.
"Esther & Me" has screened so far at The Jewish Film Festival Berlin in April and will be at The Rhode Island International Film Festival Aug 14-15 and The Austin Gay & Lesbian Film Festival in mid-September. We await word from another 30+ film fests worldwide.
"First time filmmaker, Lisa Geduldig, captures the essence of intergenerational camaraderie with humor and pathos. ESTHER & ME is a testament to the power and pleasure of shared laughter." - Jewish Film Festival Berlin
