ABOUT JUAN BENAVIDES TRIO
Juan Benavides Trio blends traditional and new Flamenco and Middle Eastern styles with a modern edge. Founder, Juan Benavides, hails from Bogota, Colombia. He studied flamenco guitar in Spain and toured extensively throughout the US. His music has been featured on several Putumayo collections. The trio includes percussion/palmas and a cantaor (singer).
ZEKI MAYIYILDIZ Zeki Maviyildiz currently teaches ballroom dancing at the Asheville Ballroom & Dance Centre. He is one of the national premier dance competitors in United States in ballroom dancing. His dancing talents include latin dance styles, tango and flamenco.
FLAMENCO Flamenco (Spanish pronunciation: [flaˈmeŋko]) is a form of Spanish folk music and dance from the region of Andalusia in southern Spain. It includes cante (singing), toque (guitar playing), baile (dance) and palmas (handclaps).
The cante flamenco (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈkante flaˈmeŋko]), meaning "flamenco song", is one of the three main components of flamenco, along with toque (playing the guitar) and baile (dance). Because the dancer is front and center in a flamenco performance, foreigners often assume the dance is the most important aspect of the art form - but in fact, it is the cante which is the heart and soul of the genre. A cante singer is a cantaor.
