Hibernating Heuriger
In Austria, many of the best wineries have casual, cozy taverns out front, where they serve up hearty, easy-going foods to match with their wines. The taverns are called "heurigen", and whatever's on the menu, you can expect a healthy dose of "gemütlichkeit" as well: intimacy, good cheer and communal peace of mind.
At this event, Rosemont will welcome the great Viennese wine importer, Carlo Huber, as we transform downtown Portland's ThinkTank into a heuriger! (Pronounce it like this: "OY-rig-uhr").
Carlo is fantastically warm and well-informed, and we can't wait to share his contagious enthusiasm for these splendid Austrian wines. Austria is producing some of the most exciting wines in the world right now. From electric whites of Grüner Veltliner, Riesling and Neuburger to fiery reds of Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt, St Laurent and Pinot Noir, these are beautiful wines for all sorts of food and all sorts of occasions.
Rosemont chef Brad Messier will present a menu that takes full advantage of these wines' flexibility. He'll cook both traditional Austrian tavern fare as well as more boundary-pushing dishes that express Asian and other influences.
