Michael Yahgulanaas - Chuckanut Radio Hour
The Chuckanut Radio Hour is Village Books' monthly radio variety show which is recorded live and features live music, the poetry corner, author interviews, and an episode of "The Bellingham Bean." Guest authors have included Sherman Alexie, Garrison Keillor, JA Jance, and Garth Stein. This month, we are excited to welcome internationally renown artist, author, and illustrator, Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas, who adeptly blends appealing imagery with complex social and environmental issues, calling upon his formal training in classic Haida design as well as contemporary influences. His work is multi-modal and he has created a new art form--Haida Manga. Join Us!
Kevin Murphy will join the Chuckanut Radio Hour as a permanent cast member with the August 19 show. He's a performance poet who has appeared on the show three times, most recently with the June show in Boundary Bay's Beer Garden. Kevin will perform both original work and the work of other poets.
Music for the August show will be provided by jazz vocalist Hadassah Norred. Throughout her high school years, Hadassah earned multiple honors in local and state competitions for solo piano performance, composition, and choral vocal music. She credits Tim Fitzpatrick and Justin Wisness as her most influential music teachers. Now Hadassah enjoys music in more relaxed environments. Most recently you may have seen her as the accompanist for Bellingham Theatre Guild's production of Guys and Dolls. She will be accompanied on piano by David post, owner and manager of Bellingham Arts Academy for Youth (BAAY) on State Street.
We ask that everyone be seated by 6:45pm for the 7pm recording.
