Mahatma Moses Comedy Tour - Hollywood
An Indian, a Jew and an Indian Jew walk onto a stage. Sounds like a set-up for a joke, doesnt it? Well, its no joke, but it does set up a very funny evening of cross-cultural comedy in the multi-ethnic San Francisco Bay Area. Dhaya Lakshminarayanan (an Indian Hindu), Joe Nguyen (a Vietnamese Jew) and Samson Koletkar (an Indian Jew) bring their hilarity and their disparity to the stage. Three thoughtful individuals with overlapping identities but unique perspectives share their absurdities, anomalies and adventures that are guaranteed to make you laugh.

Indian Jewish comedian Samson Koletkar conceived The Mahatma Moses Comedy Tour after four years on the comedy circuit. This Mumbai native grew up fielding perplexed responses to his declaration "I am a Jew." After moving to the U.S., adding the adjective "Indian" to "Jew" only increased the confusion. He decided to let the world know about Indias small, but strong, Jewish community by performing at night clubs, colleges, corporate events and fundraisers throughout the U.S. He also produces "Comedy Off Broadway Oakland," a twice-weekly stand-up showcase, and last October returned to Mumbai to demonstrate to his hometown fans why hes been nicknamed "The Indian Seinfeld." Samson recently performed in the 2010 Great Canadian Laugh Off.
Joe Nguyen's path to comedy began in the state of Georgia where he was born to a Vietnamese immigrant and a Caucasian Jew from the Dominican Republic. Upon moving to California, he developed a moderate disdain for nonsense that is best captured in his humorous routines. Despite being atypical, he appeals to audiences with his likeable stage presence and smart writing. Joe won the 2009 Russian River Comedy Competition and is the producer of a successful weekly showcase in San Francisco.
Dhaya Lakshminarayanan's commanding five-foot-tall stage presence, sharply written material and vibrant characters appeal to rowdy bar flies and sober intellectuals alike. Her act springs from her traditional Indian upbringing in Alabama and Georgia and her geek chic education at MIT. She toured nationally as one of "Five Funny Females," and won first place in the 2007 "Battle of the Bay" competition. She hosts the PBS series "High School Quiz Show," that aired in March, 2010 on WGBH.
Asim Kaleem, a native Karachite, currently resides in Los Angeles where he is a working actor and stand up comedian. He has performed at the famous "The Comedy Store" in Hollywood and "The Downtown Comedy Club" in Los Angeles. His TV credits include NBC's "Trauma" and ABC's "Flash Forward", and you can also see him in the new Brad Pitt Flick "MoneyBall."
Hailing from the City of Bangalore and now residing in the City of Angels, Abhay Nadkarni brings a whole new edge to stand up from an immigrant's perspective. Most of his comedy centers around a guy just trying to fit in. He has performed at the Comedy Store on the Sunset Strip, the ICE house Pasadena, Improv in Hollywood, Comedy Off Broadway Oakland, and Stanford.
Don't be fooled by their complicated last names. This team of talented performers has an uncomplicated approach to comedy that covers every relevant topic you can think of - race, religion, food, philosophy, nerdiness and more. Put on your thinking caps and enjoy the clean, smart, highbrow comedy of the Mahatma Moses Comedy Tour.
