Sunday August 22 at 8pm, bassist Glen Moore of the legendary fusion jazz group "Oregon" leads a new trio featuring pianist Dan Gaynor and drummer/percussionist Gary Hobbs, at Blackbird Wine and Atomic Cheese, 4323 N.E Fremont in Portland.
Writing in Oregon Music News, Tom D'Antoni says "(the group) left the audience in stunned silence. The trio provided one of those performances that you look back on years later and marvel. They were that good. Moore, Gaynor and Hobbs were simply sublime."
Glen Moore is a jazz bassist with early classical training in piano until age 13 His performing career began at age 14 with the Young Oregonians in Portland, Oregon where he met and played with American Indian saxophonist, Jim Pepper.
Moore co-founded the group "Oregon" in 1970 with Ralph Towner, Paul McCandless and Collin Walcott. He has toured Eastern and Western Europe, Northern Africa, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Australia and throughout the United States in major clubs, concert halls and festivals with that band. This year is Oregon's 40th anniversary, and they have recorded 28 CDs. They'll be touring Europe this fall and back in Portland early in 2011. See them at oregonband.com
A native of Portland, pianist Dan Gaynor studied at Mt. Hood Community College and Portland State University. He has played with many musicians including Nancy King, Kelly Joe Phelps, Esperanza Spalding, John Stowell, David Friesen, Ron Steen, Mel Brown and many others. Most recently, Dan played on the first CD by the Portland Jazz Orchestra, Good Morning, Geek.
Drummer Gary Hobbs is a native of the Pacific Northwest and lives in Vancouver, WA. He has played professionally for over 3 decades and appears on over 50 recordings. Gary played with The Stan Kenton Orchestra from 1975 through 1977. Through the years Gary has played with Randy Brecker, Anita O'Day, The New York Voices, Eddie Harris and many more. Gary is active in Jazz Education, teaching at The University Of Oregon and traveling all over the US doing clinics, concerts and jazz camps.
