FIRST FRIDAY Music Series @ Galeria West with The MAURIZIO NAJT TRIO
Since the inaugural concert in the summer of 2009 hundreds of music lovers have enjoyed the FIRST FRIDAY Music Series , presented by TEATRO Si at the intimate Galeria West Art Gallery in downtown Westfield, NJ. This once a month live concert event continues to bring to the area a unique opportunity to enjoy a diversity of music genres as performed by a select series of renowned artists.
The FIRST FRIDAY events continue on Friday, August 6, 2010 at 7pm with the passion of Tango music with Argentine pianist Maurizio Najt and his Tango Trio.
Maurizio Najt graduated in piano and composition from the Conservatorio Nacional de MÃsica in Buenos Aires and has played an important role as a tango pianist in the New York tango scene since the 90's. He performed with the historical institution "Los Amigos del Tango", and later with the acclaimed "New York Tango Trio", along with bandoneonist Raul Jaurena and bassist Pablo Aslan, with whom he toured the United States, Europe and performed at the Teatro ColÃn de Buenos Aires in 2002. As a member of the Forever Tango orchestra, Luis Bravo's Tony winning production, he toured the US, Mexico, Japan and China. Other performance venue credits include: Panamerican Symphonic Orchestra; Midnight Summer Swing at Lincoln Center Plaza, Alice Tully Hall, The Montclair Art Museum, Brooklyn's Museum of Art and El Museo del Barrio in Manhattan. As pianist for Japanese tango diva Anna Saeki, he toured Japan and Hawaii, as well as arranging and recording traditional tangos and Asian folk songs. As a composer and arranger he has written music for independent films, documentaries and off-Broadway musical theater including Don Quixote, which was nominated for an ACE award. Recently he collaborated with Academy-Award winning film director Ang Lee, arranging and recording for the film Lust Caution. He has performed in several tango productions at Thalia Spanish Theatre in NYC and TEATRO SÃ in New Jersey. He has also performed with the renowned Tito Castro's Tango Quartet and Hector del Curto's Eternal Tango Orchestra and in various tango productions in major cities in the USA. Mauricio and his guest musicians are thrilled to be part of the First Friday Music Series in New Jersey.
We hope you will join us often during the year to celebrate the arts in a unique setting. We recommend that you consider enjoying a fine meal before or after the concert at one of the fine eateries in quaint downtown Westfield and the surrounding area. Most are located within a short walk from the gallery. Proceeds from each event benefit theatrical programming efforts at TEATRO Si, a 501(c)3 New Jersey non-profit corporation.
