Moonalice
Arena Theater is proud to announce an encore performance of Moonalice on Saturday August 14, 2010 at 8:00 PM. Moonalice is the Bay Area rock band of musical all-stars including Barry Sless and Pete Sears. Founded in 2007 by Roger McNamee, well-known venture capitalist and Elevation Partners co-founder, the band is renowned for their technological ethos and for their highly regarded live act. They are known for the special digitizing technology developed by legendary producer T Bone Burnett for their self-titled debut studio CD; and for their San Francisco CD release party on April 3, 2009, a live Twitter-integrated concert, the first time that any artist broadcast a concert in real time on the Twitter platform. Moonalice is a rare band where every member is equally talented, where everyone sings, and everyone plays bass. With influences from rock, roots, rhythm-and-blues, jazz and more, these seasoned players are exploring new musical territory with a passion. Pete Sears (Jefferson Starship, Rod Stewart), Barry Sless (Phil Lesh & Friends, David Nelson Band), Ann McNamee (Flying Other Brothers, Ann Atomic), Roger McNamee (Flying Other Brothers), and John Molo (Bruce Hornsby, Phil Lesh, John Fogerty and sometimes Jack Casady (Jefferson Airplane, Hot Tuna), conjure up a spirited mix peppered with improvisation and surprise. A perfect example of the proverbial whole being greater than the sum of its parts, Moonalice turns its collective body of experience, ace musicianship, great songs, and love of adventure into live performances as distinct as they are compelling. Always at the forefront of the latest digital developments, Moonalice invented Twittercast concerts, which are free broadcasts to fans over social networks. The bandâs CD release show and party in April 2009 at Slims in San Francisco was posted live at www.twitter.com/moonalice. Immediately following each song during the show, Moonalice's sound team took the songs audio, digitized it, uploaded it and then Tweeted about its availability all before the group finished playing the next song at the live concert. The sound team used TinyURL to Tweet a link to a site where users could listen and download the song. Moonalice saw such a resounding response from followers on Twitter that the band decided to do the same thing for the next two concerts. Because of the live Twitter integration, Moonalice reported 3000 downloads of its music in the week and a half of tweets and retweeting. With T Bone Burnett's help, Moonalice's tech ethos is apparent on the studio release. From the band: The band entrusted legendary producer T Bone Burnett to help transform the highly regarded Moonalice live act into their self-titled debut studio effort. Burnett recently won both Record of the Year and Album of the Year Grammy Awards for his work on Robert Plant & Alison Krauss Raising Sand. Listeners are sure to notice the sound quality of Moonalice, due not only to its sterling musicianship and exceptional production, but also because it features Burnett's innovative new mastering technology. In addition to the CD, the DVD-V is packed with a high-resolution stereo version (24-bit/96 kHz), as well as optimized MP3, AAC and FLAC formats, plus two music videos. The entire package comes at the price of a regular, single CD. Moonalice's second album, Free, is available only over the web and only for free. The first single from that album, It's 4:20 Somewhere, has been downloaded more than 450,000 times. For more about Moonalice visit www.moonalice.com.
