What Is This Thing Called Love
The Borealis String Quartet kicks off their 15th Anniversary year with the presentation of What is this Thing Called Love, a musical celebration featuring the divinely romantic music of Cole Porter at Hycroft Manor, 8:00 PM, Thursday, February 12. This fundraiser also includes the 2015 Borealis Chamber Music Award to the most notable Contributor to Chamber Music in the GVRD.
The BSQ is known worldwide for their superb musicality and energetic performances of violinists Patricia Shih and Yuel Yawney, violist Nikita Pogrebnoy and cellist Bo Peng. Passionate is the adjective most often used to describe the Borealis String Quartet's style of playing the great works of classical chamber music. Now for the first time, the BSQ will unleash their passion on the repertoire of the one of the most beloved and renowned songwriters and librettists of the 20th Century, Cole Porter.
Porter created well over a thousand works during the course of his life, the great majority on the topic of love, each song a perfect valentine. The Borealis Quartet will be performing old favorites including: What is This Thing Called Love, Night and Day, You Do Something for Me, Let's Do It, Let's Fall in Love, I Get a Kick Out of You, Begin the Beguine and Every Time We Say Goodbye.
Join the Borealis String Quartet for a delightfully romantic evening at Hycroft Manor, one of the most stunning historic mansions in Vancouver. The music plus a sampling of gourmet chocolate delights and champagne cocktails is guaranteed to make this a very memorable evening.
