HotHouse is thrilled to announce the launch of an intriguing new monthly music series: the World Underground. the World Underground joins up-and-coming regional artists with underground legends who established many of the cultural scenes we enjoy today. Local restaurants will also cater authentic cuisine from each of the countries celebrated. Countries and cultures will unite in a globally-influenced, locally-inspired musical celebration!
SATYA (http://satyamusica.com/) is a fresh and rising young vocalist, composer, and lyricist who masterfully unites Brazilian and Indian influences over Jazz foundations. After performing alongside various groups in Chicago and throughout the world, Satya recently released her solo debut "Seven Blue Seas". Satya sings in Hindi, Portuguese and English - three languages that broadly represent the history of her native Bombay. Satya will perform with an accomplished group of local musicians including Neal Alger, Tony Barba, Patrick Mulcahy, and Robert Tucker. Satya also regularly performs with Las Guitarras de Espana, Ritwik Banerji Quintet, Matt Geraghty Project, and is a member of the Brown Rice collective of improvising musicians.
DJ JOE BRYL was once named by the Chicago Tribune as Chicago's "Most Interesting DJ. He has been working in the club and entertainment industry for over 20 years and was an original partner in the creation of HotHouse. He was also involved in early days of The Funky Buddha Lounge, setting new standards for nightclubs in Chicago. Joe worked as artistic director at the club Sonotheque and most recently began curating at The Shrine. A true pioneer continuing to push the international sounds as a DJ, Joe plays a wide range of left-field dance music, ranging from Rare Groove, Latin, Funk, Brazilian, Steppers, African, Acid Jazz & Neo-Soul. He is also an accomplished DJ and record collector.
WICKER PARK ART CENTER is an architectural gem in the heart of Wicker Park, Chicago. The beautiful multi-level facility is a converted Romanesque-style church built shortly after the Chicago fire in 1890. The center is currently run by the Near NorthWest Arts Council, http://www.nnwac.org, a local arts institution that has long provided housing for artists and organizations throughout Chicago.
