Back in March of 2014, saxophonist Russ Gershon played the 4th show in the Jazz at The Green Room series, a fantastic duo hit with pianist Rusty Scott. I'm thrilled that he's coming back for JATGR #24.
Russ is a fixture in the Boston jazz world, in a couple big ways. Since 1985, he's helmed The Either/Orchestra, a legendary "little big band" whose lineup over the years has included such high-profile players as John Medeski, Matt Wilson, Miguel Zenon, Jaleel Shaw & Josh Roseman, among many, many others (including bassist Bob Nieske, whose quartet blew our minds at JATGR #23... and trumpet player Daniel Rosenthal, who appeared with his bluegrass musician dad at JATGR #17.... and sax player Mark Zaleski, who played bass at JATGR #10).
Since 1986, he's run Accurate Records, a label responsible for releasing not only dozens of amazing recordings of the Boston jazz scene but also early records by Morphine, Medeski, Martin & Wood, and the Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey.
These days, in addition to E/O, Russ is playing with bugalu dance band Lookie Lookie and with vocalist Gabrielle Agachiko, while also shaping musical minds in his role as an educator at the elementary school and college levels.
He'll be joined for this rare trio appearance by bassist Blake Newman and current E/O drummer Oscar Suchanek.
