Join the Museum for an evening of Movies & Mojitos, where guests pack a picnic dinner and blanket to enjoy along with Cuban hors d'oeuvres and a thirst-quenching Mojito before settling in to watch a movie in the Sculpture Garden. The galleries featuring the Cuba Avant-Garde exhibition will also be open, with an optional 8pm docent tour, followed by the films at 9pm.
Buena Vista Social Club In 1996, Ry Cooder gathered together some of the greatest names from the history of Cuban music from the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s to collaborate on the bestselling and Grammy Award-winning album, The Buena Vista Social Club. Inspired by these colorful characters and their extraordinary music, director Wim Wenders travels to Havana to chronicle the cooperation and camaraderie between Cooder and his veteran friends, known in Cuba as "Los Superablos" (the Super-Grandfathers), as well as their dazzling concerts in Amsterdam and New York's Carnegie Hall in April and July 1998.
John Farr, editor of www.bestmoviesbyfarr.com and co-founder of the Avon Theatre Film Center in Stamford, CT (www.avontheatre.org) will give a brief introduction.
