The Grapes of Wrath
Join us on Saturday, February 28 at 7 pm as we present John Ford's masterful interpretation of John Steinbeck's Pulitzer Prize winning novel "The Grapes of Wrath", starring Henry Fonda, Jane Darwell and John Carradine.
Set during the Great Depression, the story revolves around the Joads, a poor family of tenant farmers driven from their Oklahoma home by drought, economic hardship, agricultural industry changes and bank foreclosures forcing tenant farmers out of work. Due to their nearly hopeless situation, and in part because they were trapped in the Dust Bowl, the Joads set out for California. Along with thousands of other "Okies", they sought jobs, land, dignity, and a future. This remarkable film was nominated for seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Actor (Henry Fonda), Film Editing, Sound and Writing. John Ford won the Best Director Oscar and actress Jane Darwell won Best Actress for her portrayal of Ma Joad, the matriarch of the struggling migrant farmer family.
Released in 1940, this classic film is celebrating its 75th Anniversary and is being shown in its original black and white glory! Run time is 129 minutes.
Tickets are $7.00 per person and available online, at Seastrand (919 Linden Avenue with cash or check only) and at the theater box office prior to show time.
