Whiteside Theatre presents Grayhawk Perkins & Mezcal Jazz Unit
Grayhawk introduces himself and talks about his childhood in Louisiana, as a Native American, member of the Muskogee Nation and Houma and Choctaw Tribes. He speaks of his education by his grandparents and how he learned to be a storyteller. He tells one or two stories and invites the audience to participate, calling on students to take on roles. He ends his program teaching a song playing traditional instruments such as the rattle and drum. This presentation can end with a performance by all of the musicians in the form of a mini-concert (three songs). There is separately a full concert in the evening at 6:30.
