Sybarite5 Invades Albuquerque
ACCLAIMED STRING ENSEMBLE SYBARITE5 TO PERFORM ALBUQUERQUE DOUBLE-HEADER
July 24Th & 25th 2010
New York-based string quintet, Sybarite5 takes a break from its post as the official Alumni Ensemble for the 2010 Aspen Music Festival to make their New Mexico debut performing back-to-back concerts in Albuquerque. These concerts will feature Sybarite5's eclectic repertoire ranging from Tchaikovsky to Radiohead. They will also mark the New Mexico premiere of Turceasca by composer Matt Van Brink after the Romanian gypsy group Taraf de Haidouks. On July 24, the ensemble will present a concert at Robertson and Sons' intimate recital hall at 7:30pm, and on July 25 they will perform in collaboration with poet Danny Solis on the Church of Beethoven Concert Series at 10:30am. About the ensemble: Comprised of Sami Merdinian and Sarah Whitney, violins; Angela Pickett, viola; Laura Metcalf, cello; and Louis Levitt, bass, Sybarite5 has taken audiences around the US by storm. From Radiohead to Mozart, this group of talented, diverse musicians has changed the perception of chamber music performance. From the moment that their bows hit the strings, the audience is taken on a wild ride that engages the senses and redefines the rules. "If you're looking for a worthy successor to the Kronos Quartet as a small string ensemble pushing the envelope of concert music, count this exciting gang of five as one excellent candidate." -Jon Sobel, Blog Critics Magazine
