When an old European Maestro will stop at nothing to mold an apprentice in the flames of his passion for music, the young man discovers that great conductors are not born--they must be forged...in fire.
"unique depth & humor, tremendous verve & palpable passion" --Chicago Sun Times
"overwhelming. A MUST SEE." --WFMT Fine Arts Radio Music Through the Night
"...funny, horrifying, poignant...great stories, well told." --Bar Harbor Times
MUSE of FIRE is David Katz's extraordinary one-man play about the art of conducting and the art of life. No other work of theater so vividly conveys the power of great music to transform the heart and touch the soul, and none makes it so entertaining.
Meet The Sorcerer: demonic in his fury, uncompromising in his standards, whose cutting wit will make you laugh (and wince.)
Meet The Apprentice: innocent and terrified, eager and courageous, whose final triumph will make you cheer (and cry.)
Experience MUSE of FIRE and you will never listen to music--any music--the same way again.
Performed to cheers & standing ovations from Chicago to Halifax and Baltimore to Boston (and soon off-Broadway), acclaimed actor & conductor David Katz presents MUSE of FIRE, his fascinating, funny and poignant one-man play about how he became a conductor, and the teacher who molded him: a maestro who would stop at nothing...not laughter, not even death...to make you feel music's wonder.
"Completely unexpected. Extraordinary!" --Imperial Theater, New Brunswick
"The audience was riveted, enraptured." --Boothbay Harbor Opera House
"Heartfelt...absolutely wonderful." --Camden Opera House
MUSE of FIRE features beautifully recorded orchestral works by more than a dozen classical composers exquisitely woven into the fabric of the story. The original production was the last play directed by Tony Award winning actor and beloved Broadway director, Charles Nelson Reilly.
