The New Cult Canon Series Presents: "THE LOST HIGHWAY"
nspired by the A.V. Club column, The New Cult Canon series celebrates the next generation of cult movies and the obsessive weirdoes who love them. Back in 1997, many critics dismissed David Lynch's Lost Highway as a lurid indulgence, but time has been kind to this creepy headtrip, a fractured take on one man's psychotic breakdown that now looks like a proto-Mulholland Dr. A.V. Club critic Scott Tobias, who featured the film in his online column The New Cult Canon, will introduce it and lead a discussion afterwards.
Fred Madison, a saxophonist, is accused under mysterious circumstances of murdering his wife Renee. On death row, he inexplicably morphs into a young man named Pete Dayton, leading a completely different life. When Pete is released, his and Fred's paths begin to cross in a surreal, suspenseful web of intrigue, orchestrated by a shady gangster boss named Dick Laurent.
