"ECHO Totes" Workshop with Renee Richetts, July 24th
Making and carrying ECHO Totes is a form of "green crafting" that results in beautiful fashion and ecological statements. When folks see the totes, they often think "I can make that", and they can! You can. This workshop is your opportunity to learn a few design tricks, to work with new materials, and to make a tote that's both functional and eye-catching. I've just returned from a trip to Italy where I gathered a suitcase filled with Italian ephemera for our use: bags, wrappers, print ads, etc. Consider the workshop something of a self-challenge, with a big addition of linguistic fun for good measure. You will learn step-by-step: How to select tote materials for their strength and water resistance A tote design that's simple AND very useful How to water-proof embellishments the eco-friendly way Likely sources of free and very low-cost tote supplies. Materials and supplies will be provided.
Please bring a sewing machine---a limited number of sewing machines will be available. If you will need one, please reserve it with gallery staff by Thursday July 22nd.
