Introducing The Russians, a Boston-based group led by Mister Scott Janovitz, who has been sideman to Graham Parker, The Figgs, Jake Brennan, and Garvy J. (aka Josh Hager). In between all those gigs, Janovitz wrote and recorded a couple of EPs at The Moontower studio in Cambridge with his friends. The months went by and the songs continued to pile up. The Russians are pleased to announce that those songs have been selected, mixed and presented in the long-playing album format. Theirs is called CRASHING THE PARTY and it will be available to the public on July 13th, with a pre-release celebration at The Lizard Lounge on July 10th. More to come, meanwhile here's what some people who have heard the new album say:
"Multi-talented multi-instrumentalist Scott Janovitz comes up with a super-eclectic bunch of tunes couched in a breezy summery sound well worthy of your attention. Please allow The Russians to invade the shores of your imagination." - GRAHAM PARKER
"Crashing The Party is a collection of smart, memorable pop songs that stand up to repeated listens. The Russians hit that sweet spot where clever and heartfelt overlap." - TOM PERROTTA (author of 'Election' and 'Little Children')
"The new album by the Russians is a beautifully crafted, dreamily head-spinning montage of sound. They trip across an artfully varied repertoire that hints of influences from the Beatles and Beach Boys to Nirvana, Wilco and the Flaming Lips. In other words, all bands that matter. The opening song could be a lost track from the Beatles' 'Magical Mystery Tour.' The Russians boast a warmly psychedelic feel, but also intersperse danceable guitar rock and '80s synth-pop to great effect.'' - STEVE MORSE (former staff critic and 30-year veteran of the Boston Globe)
