JOHN SHADE and THE NEAVE QUARTET with guest JOCIE ADAMS (of THE LOW ANTHEM)
Wednesday 7/7 JOHN SHADE AND THE NEAVE QUARTET with very special special guest: JOCIE ADAMS (of THE LOW ANTHEM) $5 ADVANCE / $7 at the DOOR 8:30 doors / 9:00 show www.johnshademusic.com www.myspace.com/jocelynadamsmusic
John Shade (a.k.a. Dave Godowsky) performs tonight with the wonderful string quartet known as The Neave Quartet. The instrumentation proves the perfect backdrop for Shade's often humorous but poignant tales of love and loss. Fantastic opening act Jocie Adams rounds out this special night.
NY Metromix writes....
It helps to know that this musician from Maine was a poetry major in college - which explains why songwriter Dave Godowsky performs under the nom de plume John Shade (taken from Vladimir Nabokov novel "Pale Fire" but what needs no explanation is what he's doing on stage. Still repping his "All You Love Is Need" album released last January, the title may play on the Beatles but his sound is all his own, strumming a guitar and staying sad and soft, he floats by on playful rhymes, sort of like a young Bob Dylan had Mr. Zimmerman known the wonders of Zoloft way back when.
